Quality tool made in the U.K. (not to be confused with the slightly cheaper versions found elsewhere)

It took 3 practice attempts of both the DIN and SAE models to work out how the tool likes the pipe to be cut, deburred, and how best to tighten the die.

With the DIN version I found it gave perfect results when presented with a cleanly cut pipe, with a slight deburr to the inside, tightening the die like a thread tap, half turn, back off, half turn etc…

With the SAE version, the pipe required a cleanly cut pipe, with a slight deburr to the inside and a fair deburr to the outside of the pipe, with no backing off of either die when tightening, again, perfect results.

I am very happy with both tools, and cannot imagine how the much more expensive brake flaring tools could give better results.

I have now remade all the brake lines on my 40 year old Ford, and neither the DIN or SAE tool show any signs of use.

Thanks CBS.

I never normal do reviews but having had great service from CBS for over 15 years this is a must.  So in the past I bought a brake flaring tool it was cheap so I bought a better one that was better, then I lent it to some one I forgot who, then I borrowed one., it was a sealy and it was awful, in fact all weren’t good and the flares I thought were all poor in varying degrees. Then about a month ago i just thought their has got to be a better way.  Well the hand held tool is a revaluation compared to all the others, the flares were so easy to do, and looked so much better, cleaner sharper and were distinctly professional to the extent I dumped all the previously made ends for new.  I think I have sold on behalf at least two more for cbs as my car buddy friends have been all impressed how well and good these things are.  You wouldn’t ordinarily know unless you have done it with different types to get how much better easier, and you can do it in tight places on the car if necessary.  Best of luck.  Paul Greenhalgh

I have the 3/16th version and it is amazing for working on the car in tight spaces, coupled with a ratcheting cutter.

I desperately need a 5/16th version but can't find one anywhere!

Tell me if you find one boma23 at outlook dot com !

This tool is brilliant especially with brand new unused pipes. One of the pipes i needed to do was slippery so it slipped through, however i burnt off the diesel and put a strip of sandpaper into the tool and tightened it and sure enough it stayed in the tool and made a nice seal when back together. Highly recommended.

I can confirm that all earlier reviews are in line with my own experience. Without effort I managed to produce a fantastic double flare. The only thing that surprised me was that the tool neater than I expected, but still very robust. There are faster bench tools but this one is easy to use under the car and the price is right. The serious hobbyist don't need to look further, this is the one!

This makes proper double flares in Brake Pipe...
Not the half done , bent ones which the cheeper tools produce ..
Brakes are not something to take chances with...Well worth the extra cost for the peace of mind...
Good YouTube video showing how to use the tool...

Car Builder Solutions is a Great Website for all Real Old School Mechanics....
So glad that I found it....

Although not bought from CBS, I have had this tool for about 5 years, and cannot fault it. I couldn't count the amount of brake and clutch systems I have done with this tool over the years with no noticeable change to the high quality of single or double flare produced.

Two recommendations I will make is to invest in a upto 16mm pipe cutter which is small enough to fit inside the box with the tool.
And a small plastic bag to put the grease and taps etc into. Keeps everything tidy, stops the grease you put on the punch getting on the handle and tool in storage.

Requires a 16mm spanner or deep socket and a 10mm spanner/socket.

Easy to press flares on or off the vehicle.
