Just the job for a Scorpio II Cosworth

I have a 1998 Ford Scorpio 2.9 24V Cosworth Estate, and realised I needed a new thermostat. Searches for an original Ford part produced nothing. Some car part suppliers showed a normal separate thermostat that goes into a housing, but I knew what the proper one was supposed to look like from diagrams and photos. Eventually found a forum thread from some years ago suggesting this item. It does look like the original Ford one (except painted black - original Ford part was bare brass), it's close enough to the right temperature (87 against the original 88) and it's used in the Scorpio with the flow in the other direction - out from centre port to water pump inlet, in from radiator bottom to bottom port, in from bypass to top port. But my garage managed to fit it (a pig to fit in the Scorpio as it's tucked right behind the a/c compressor which you have to remove to get to the thermostat) and it's working really well - the mpg is going up and I have a heater again! So for anyone looking for a thermostat for a '94-'98 Scorpio 2.9 24V Cosworth, this fits - and after extensive internet searching actually appears to be the ONLY source for one. I'm hoping it continues to be available.

Great company. Replied to my email straight away the following morning!! To answers I had asked about a part, and then replied instantly to other questions. The part I ordered was exactly what it was meant to be and to top it off it came early than it should of, bonus. Thanks for you service 😁

this is made of metal, so it will not warp like the R....r plastic item.  This one must be fitted with the cold entry in the centre, because it has two flanges and the cold closes as the hot opens.  very useful for after market engine changes, especially for engines with the thermostat at the entry to the block.

Looks like an ordinary thermostat housing, but it is metal, not plastic, so it won't warp like the R....r one.
As far as i can see it MUST be fitted with cold (and hot) in at the middle as shown in the catalogue, because it actually has TWO flanges, one opens to allow water to the Hot outlet, and at the same time closes the Cold outlet.  Works ok for road use, will add to this when we are able to have a thrash at a track day!!
